After School Arrangements
Any changes in bus transportation (such as riding a bus other than the regularly assigned bus) will require a note signed by the parent and presented to the teacher on the day the change is needed. These notes should include student's bus stop and contact information. Bus drivers will not accept new students on their buses without this information.

Parents who pick up children from school should send a written statement to the teacher at the beginning of the school year. All children should be picked up by 3:15 p.m. Please phone the school office in case of an emergency. All changes need to be called in before 11:00 a.m.

If a child needs to go to a regularly scheduled daycare facility, scouting program, etc., after school hours, the parent is required to send a written notification to the teacher. The teacher needs to know by what means each student is to go home, and if this is to be changed, a written note should be sent to the teacher. If your child will not be riding his/her daycare van, please notify the daycare center.

If your child is to go home with a classmate after school, both the hosting and visiting students must bring notes from their parents indicating the planned visit and transportation plans.

No student will be permitted to ride home, after school hours, with anyone other than his/her parent unless the child brings a note from his/her parent requesting such.

Students are not allowed to leave the school campus during the day without an appropriate adult.

Attendance / Tardy / Leaving School
Students are considered tardy if they are not in their homeroom by 8:30 a.m. If a student is tardy he /she and their parent must check into the office and receive a pink tardy slip. All tardies must be for an excused reason (Not “I over slept” or “traffic”). If proof of a legal reason cannot be provided (ex. doctor or dentist appointment) it will be marked unexcused. When a child is tardy, it interrupts the child's routine and the routine of the class.

A student who leaves school for any reason during the day is counted absent for the day unless he/she returns and the combined time in school is equal to 51% of the regular school day or 3½ hours (11:45 a.m.).

Students may leave with a parent for dental or doctor's appointments with prior notice to the child's teacher. Whenever possible make these appointments before or after school hours.

If it is necessary for a parent to take his/her child from school during school hours, come to the office. A sign-out sheet is on the desk in the front office. Office personnel will issue you a pass to pick up your child from the room. You MUST stop at the office FIRST to get your yellow slip for early dismissal. Without the pass you will not be allowed to take your child from the room. If the student returns to school, he/she should report to the office for readmission.

When your child is absent, parent/guardians must send in a written note explaining the student absences. These notes must be sent to school within 2 days after the student returns to school and a parent must sign these notes. The absence will be marked unexcused until a note is received.

If you would like to take your child out of school for religious or educational reasons, you must fill out a Request for Excused Absence Form. This request will require the prior approval of a Senior Partner. These forms may be obtained from the school office and must be filled out at least two weeks in advance of the scheduled absence. Family trips and reunions will not be considered excused absences. You may choose to take your child(ren) out of school for these events and they will be allowed to make up their work.

Communicable Diseases
The Board of Education has developed a policy concerning students and staff members with life-threatening communicable diseases that may pose a threat to the health and safety of students and staff. Such situations are to be reported to the Senior Partner and/or to the employee's immediate supervisor. The Superintendent will select an interdisciplinary committee to study the situation and make specific recommendations. Each case is considered on a case-by-case basis. All deliberations shall be kept strictly confidential. All students must be fever free and throw up free for 24 hours before returning to school.

Emergency Information
Please give your child's teacher and the office the name and phone number of a relative, neighbor or friend who can be contacted in case of an emergency when you cannot be reached. If this situation changes during the year, please notify the office and the teacher.

Prescription Medicine
Medication can be distributed in the Health Room only after receiving the proper form (# 1702) from the doctor, signed by the parents. The form may be obtained from our office prior to school opening. Please make sure we have this information prior to the beginning of school if medication is to be administered to your child by staff. All medications must be checked into the school by the parent and signed in by office staff. Medications that are not signed in CANNOT be administered to the student.

All medication must be secured daily. Antibiotic medication may be administered if it remains in the prescription bottle until the contents are used. Questions may be forwarded to our school nurse, Tammy Hudson, at 250-1259.

Student Records
Student records may be reviewed by parents in the presence of a Senior Partner. If you wish to review your child's school record you may notify the school in writing and set up an appointment to review the record with the appropriate personnel.

Student Dress
Hats are allowed in the building on school spirit days only. Keep hats at home except on those designated days. Halter-tops and shirts with spaghetti straps are not appropriate. The Senior Partners will address other inappropriate attire individually. Please see School Board Policy 6410.1 in the WCPSS Student/Parent Handbook for specific details regarding student dress code.

WCPSS Code of Conduct
All students are responsible for complying with and are expected to be familiar with the WCPSS Code of Student Conduct and school board policies governing student behavior and conduct. All Code of Student Conduct policies are contained in the WCPSS Student/Parent Handbook, which is distributed to all students and parents at the beginning of each school year or upon enrollment in the WCPSS. If there is a conflict between the rules expressed in this handbook and the Code of Student Conduct policies, the WCPSS Code of Student Conduct policies shall take precedence.
