May 8, 2008:

As our last service project of the year, we are asking Partnership students to bring in jars of peanut butter which we will donate to the Food Bank of North Carolina. Many children do not get enough protein in their diet, and peanut butter is an easy way for them to get some of their daily protein requirement. So please pick up an extra jar of peanut butter when you are out shopping, and bring it to the adorable collection barrel outside the library. Thank you for your help.
The fifth graders are raising money for our playground improvements. They are preselling doughnuts and doughnut certificates. Order forms are due on Friday May 9. You may pick up your doughnuts on Tuesday May 13. Doughnuts are $6/dozen. Thank you to the wonderfully generous parents who have donated to our playground improvement fund. We have raised $3500 so far. Wake County will match the money we raise. We need $14,800 for three new pieces of play equipment for our children. You may see learn more about this project and see pictures of the equipement we would like to purchase here.
Next week we will be giving the End of Grade tests in 3, 4, and 5th grades. Testing begins at 8:40. We need every child in class, settled, and ready to start the day before 8:30. Please, please, please get to school on time next week. Children who arrive at school after 8:30 might not be admitted for testing. Please feed your child an excellent breakfast before testing. The test and survey on Monday take almost 190 minutes. On Tuesday the test is 158 minutes long. On Wednesday the test is 75 minutes long. Children will not be able to eat, drink, talk or get out of their seats during the tests. It is a long week. Please give them nutritious brain food, early bedtimes, calm mornings and confidence.
*****The date for our Talent show has changed. The Talent Show is now TUESDAY, MAY 27 from 9-11:30 at Fletcher Park***** The raindate will be Wednesday, May 28th at the Partnership Playground.
At Partnership Elementary School, we have a process in place for creating class lists for the upcoming school year. The sending grade level teachers (e.g. 1st grade teachers) and the receiving grade level teachers (e.g. 2nd grade teachers) meet with all the specialists (Counselor, Librarian, PE Teacher, ALP Teachers, Special Education Teachers) and the Senior Partners. This team takes many factors into consideration when creating class lists. First, the rising students' names are divided into three class lists. Then, adjustments are made for balancing the classroom by gender, ethnicity, student ability level, and other special considerations. It is at this point in the process that parent input letters are read aloud for the committee to hear and provide input.
While writing a parent input letter is not required, parents who choose to do so are asked to include only:
your child's optimal learning environment, teacher characteristics that may enhance your child's learning experience, and/or 3-4 of your child's friends so that we may consider at least one when creating the class lists.
Letters with teachers' names or information that clearly indicates specific teachers (e.g. physical description, gender, family life, interests, etc.) will not be shared during the input process.
Please recognize that with these many factors, we do our best to consider parental input in this process! These letters are due no later than Friday May 23rd.

April 28, 2008:

At our April PTA general meeting, we made a motion to earmark $2000 of our current year's budget to purchasing additional items for our playground that will give our older children some more physical activities to participate in. We would like to purchase 3 interactive pieces of play equipment that will attach to our ship: a 3 tiered chin up bar, a spinny piece of equipment that will be great for improving upper body strength, and a climbing structure with a net and ropes. and 2 items pictured below.
We got a quote from the Little Tikes representative of $14,800 for purchasing and installing these 3 items.
Our 5th graders have raised over $900 so far, and are contributing this money toward new playground equipment. The county will match whatever we raise up to $10,000.
If you would like to contribute to this exciting fundraiser, please see Dawn Mouradi or Mary Hunter Martin.

Please be courteous of our neighbors, and do not park in front of these houses when you are volunteering or during carpool time.

Please participate in our spring fundraiser. Every child received an envelope containing mailers and a letter about our Science Celebration and the spring fundraiser. Please help us raise the $12,000 we have budgeted by addressing some envelopes to your family and friends and ask them to support our Celebration and our school. The money we raise will buy technology resources and provide cultural arts programs for your children. If you'd rather not send out mailers, you can make a contribution yourself and be finished!! We are asking for a donation of $50 to help us reach our goal. Every child who participates will be recognized, and the first class to reach 100% participation will get a pizza party lunch. So far, 16 students have turned in their mailers/contributions. We are off to a terrific start.

November 6, 2007:

Partnership Elementary is pleased to announce that its Teacher of the Year is kindergarten teacher, Jenni Wilkinson. Congratulations to Mrs. Wilkinson!

Parent information sessions begin December 6 at Partnership. It is a time where we want to show prospective parents what we have to offer children.

We will have parents begin their session in the basement(Planet Earth)
where they will look at information from each grade level. We will take the prospective parents on a tour of our building and end in the multi-purpose room where they will see a presentation about our school.

We want to spruce things up a bit and we need your help. We are having a painting party on Saturday, November 17, starting at 11:00am. We want to paint Planet Earth a bright, inviting color. We want to clean up(and maybe paint) the stairwell/hall that goes from the lobby to the 5th grade hallway. We want to make a good impression on our prospective parents. Please let Ms. Martin know if you are able to help. We want to make sure that we have enough paint brushes for everyone!

The Scholastic Book Fair will be in the Partnership cafeteria November 27, 28, 29 from 8am-4pm and the evening of November 27 from 5:30-7pm.

We are very efficient at carpool now, and are taking leftover children inside at 3:15. School is dismissed at 3:00; you are late if you are picking up your child at 3:15. You must come inside and sign your child out. Please pick up your children on time. We have conferences and meetings that begin at 3:15.

Are you interested in coaching an Odyssey of the Mind team? We have 9 children who really want to participate in OM this year, but we don't have any coaches. If we don't get coaches, we will not be able to offer these children a position on an OM team.

Do you have any old children's belts that you could donate to Partnership? Some of our kids need help keeping their pants up at school. Send belts in to Ms. Martin in the library.

Our Giving Tree is up outside Planet Earth. If you are willing to purchase an item for the tree, please sign up on the tree.

Frolic
It was certainly a Frolic to remember. We cannot thank you enough for your support and enthusiasm during our drought-reducing Frolic. The children were adorable dancing in the rain. The rain soaked grillers were magnificent, cooking on charcoal that continuously went out. The teachers and parents who loaded and unloaded tables, merchandise and coolers full of drinks were fantastic and drenched. The parking crew was amazing, directing cars in the downpour. The dedicated parents who went to their assigned stations in the rain made us proud. Everyone was flexible and patient as we moved food inside and the long line formed.
Thank you all for being understanding and making the best of a messy night. I appreciate your sticking with us. The very good news is that thanks to everyone's efforts, we will meet our budgeted goal of $19,000 for this event.
Some of you have asked why we did not have the Frolic on Sunday. We had heard from dozens of people who could not fulfill their cooking and game shifts on Sunday due to a variety of other commitments. We were not sure we would have had enough volunteers to man the grills and the games. Additionally, we would not have had the dj, Bungee Basketball or the Moon Bounce on Sunday. We did not have the rented tables reserved for Sunday use. We did not anticipate lightning on Friday.
If you want to see some Frolic pictures, you can go to photospecialties.com and use the password FROLIC.
Today we pulled out some of the Frolic games and gave the children an opportunity to play, since we had to close down the games last Friday night. The children enjoyed skee ball, the bean bag toss, toilet paper toss, putt putt, soft ball in a can, plinko, and football through a tire. They had a great time.
Some people have auction items to pick up in the library. Ms. Martin will be at school on Wednesday, September 26 if you want to come by over the break.

September 13, 2007:

Update: 2:05 pm
THE FROLIC IS ON FOR TONIGHT!!

The Frolic is here! We are so so excited that it is finally here. Your children have done an excellent job selling raffle tickets. The winner of the Wii will be drawn at the Frolic. If you don't remember what/when your game shift is, there will be people running around with schedules whom you can check with. Please show up for your shift on time. Everyone wants a chance to socialize at the Frolic.
Please do a desert cactus dance tonight. We need it to be dry for our Fun Family Frolic. If the weather is bad, we will postpone the Frolic until Sunday from 2- 5. We will decide at 2pm and will do a whole school phone call a to let you know. Until then we will proceed as planned. So keep your paws crossed the rain holds off. We'll see you tomorrow night!!!
The Fall Family Frolic will be from 5-8 pm. It will be held again at Mount Vernon School. Mount Vernon is located at 5418 Chapel Hill Road, Raleigh, NC 27607. You may create specific directions here.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT is Thursday August 16th

We have a very busy evening planned for our Partnership Parents this
Thursday night. Please look over the schedule for the evening. We have worked hard to provide each family with an opportunity to attend a presentation in your child(ren)'s classroom and to learn about our PTA all in one night. The 5:00 and 6:15 presentations are the same. For those families with multiple rooms to visit, teachers will have handouts of their presentations for you. Parking is always challenging for these school-wide events. We suggest you look for other parents to carpool with. Babysitting will not be provided. We look forward to seeing you. Please bring your notepads, questions and cheerful smiles.

Back to School Night Schedule
5:00-6:00 Kindergarten through 5th Grade Presentations in
Classrooms

PTA General Meeting in the Multipurpose Room

6:00-6:15 Transition Time

6:15-7:15 Kindergarten through 5th Grade Presentations in
Classrooms

PTA General Meeting in the Multipurpose Room

7:15-7:30 PTA Fair in the multipurpose room

HOT NEWS!!
Guess who is sleeping on the roof? If you do not know.........just
ask your child. This Thursday afternoon, three of our school personnel are going up on the roof at 2:45 as the students cheer on their accomplishment of reading over 100,000 pages over the summer. We are very proud of our children for demonstrating their love of reading.

Come see your Senior Partners and your librarian sweating on the roof
on Thursday night. And perhaps you might take pity on them and bring them snacks or ice cream or coffee on Friday morning or some sunscreen or something to occupy their many sizzling hours on the roof........

Frolic News
The frolic is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we need your help to make it a success.

Please bring in a donation for your grade level basket or offer to help with an art project in 3rd and 5th grade. Please help us solicit an item for our raffle. We are hoping someone will donate a bike to us.....does anyone know how we can get a bike donated? Or some other riding vehicle...a scooter or skateboard or something? And an ipod or docking station? Or a car dvd player? We hope our alums will volunteer to run the dessert booth and the soccer game. If your Partnership alum wants to volunteer for a 30 minute shift, let Ms. Martin know.
Thank you to everyone who brought in juice boxes. We have plenty for the Frolic.
Can anyone get some Baskin Robbins gift certificates that we can use as incentives for our children? We need about 10.

3rd grade is looking for parents who can help on Fridays at 9:30 with their art project for the FROLIC

Please do not drop off your child in the parking lot in the morning. We want our children to be safe at school.

WOW, the parking lot is full in the mornings, and it is like an egg hunt for staff to find spaces. Please make sure you are parking in an actual space. Do not stop your car in the middle of the lot, even if you are just running your child in to Early Morning Arrival.

For your Calendars:
Early Release Day is August 29. School dismisses at noon.
Planting Day is Saturday October 13.

Partnership Elementary is proud of our "Feed the Bin" recycling program, now in our third year! We work in conjunction with Wake County Waste Management in recycling paper at our school. There are large green carts for this paper located outside beside the dumpsters. We have had a problem with finding trash and food in these bins. Please make sure that you dispose of your trash properly, as these outside green carts are for paper only. If you are working inside the school, each classroom and copier have green bins to recycle paper. Please make sure you "feed the bin" only copy paper, mail, envelopes, notebook paper, and sticky notes. Please do not put copy paper wrappers, construction paper, cardboard, tissues, or trash into these green bins. Thank you for keeping Partnership green!

August 9, 2007:

The Frolic is 5 weeks away!!! Please contribute items to our silent auction. We need restaurant gift certificates. Remember to bring in an item for your grade level basket.

The Summer Reading Goal of 100,000 pages has been met!! That means that Ms. Martin, Ms. Hiltz, and Mr. Kenjarski will be spending the night of Back to School (August 16th) on the Partnership Elementary roof!

We love for you to come eat lunch with your child in our cafeteria, but if you are going to eat a school lunch we need to know by 9:00. We have to order the lunches every day, and we want to have enough for the children.

August 6, 2007:

Back to School Night will be on Thursday, August 16th starting at 5:00pm. There will be two one-hour classroom presentations in your child's classroom (both presentations are the same). There is also a PTA General Meeting scheduled so that you may learn more about and join the extrordinary Partnership PTA. You may view the complete schedule here.

August 3, 2007:

Welcome back to school, Partnership families. We have had a terrific first week with your children. Thank you for continuing to be a part of the Partnership family.

FROLIC
The Frolic is coming, the Frolic is coming!!! 5-8pm on September 14 is our
Fun Family Frolic, the frawesome, frabulous fundraiser for our PTA. We need your help. We are collecting auction items and gift certificates in the library. We are accepting donations of bottled water, canned drinks and Capri Suns in the library. This week Harris Teeter has Capri Sun on sale 4 for $5. Coke products are BOGO. We also need paper grocery bags. Thank you for your help.

Please be patient as you wait for your child's name to be called for
carpool. We want all of our children to go home safely and in a timely fashion.

Please remember that you are responsible for your child until the
8:00 bell rings. Do not drop your child off at school in the morning and leave campus.

Box Tops
We had a Box Tops challenge this summer. The person who brought in
the most Box Tops by August 1st won an ice cream cone from Baskin Robbins. The winner was Jennifer Baker, 4th grade teacher!!!!! Thank you all for turning in your neatly cut Box Tops to Ms. Martin. We earn 10 cents for every Box Top. We are having the same competition for the month of August. remember to write your child's name on the Box Top bag.

Service Project
As an ongoing service project, Partnership students are collecting
pop tops from cans to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. We have a beautiful collection house in the lobby that Mr. Jenkins built. We want to fill the house by December break. Can we do it???

E News
So far only 60 people have joined our Yahoo Group to receive these
news filled e mails. Remind your fellow parents that this is a great way to get information about what's happening at school.

Will They Sleep on the Roof???
It looks as if Mr. Kenjarski, Ms. Hiltz and Ms. Martin will get to sleep in
their own beds on August 16.....only 20 students have turned in their summer reading to the library. So far Partnership students have read 35,737 pages toward the goal of 100,000 pages. The deadline is August 6, so if you want to see the Senior Partners spend a sleepless, hot, showerless night on the roof, write down how many pages your child read (reading to your child counts too) this summer and turn it in to Ms. Martin quickly.

Are you a BJs member? Are you willing to give some of your store coupons to the Frolic food committee? We need to buy 600 hot dogs and 350 hamburgers. We would love to use your coupons.

July 24, 2007:

June 22, 2007:

The 2007-2008 school year starts on Wednesday, July 25th. Meet the teacher will be Tuesday, July 24th from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

It is with much excitement that we announce the beginning of our new After School Program here at Partnership. This program is designed to assist students with their homework between the hours of 3:00-6:00pm. This will allow them to spend quality time with their families when they get home. The registration fee is $15 and the monthly cost is $165 per child. A snack will be provided each day for the children.

We will continue to have our Before School Program from 7:00-8:00am. The registration fee is $10.00 and the monthly cost is $35 per child.

Registration for both programs will be held on July 12, 2007 from 11:00am to 12:30pm. Due to space limitations, we can only accommodate 30 children per program. Therefore, applications will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. Summer Reading:
Don't forget to keep track of the number of pages your child is reading this summer. If our students collectively read 100,000 pages, Mr. Kenjarski, Ms. Hiltz and Ms. Martin will sleep on the roof in September.

Fall Family Frolic:

Don't forget to keep an eye out for interesting items for our auction and your class basket. If you are cleaning out your gift closet this summer and don't know what to do with those presents you never gave, why not donate them to the Frolic? We are accepting donations in the library Monday through Thursday 8am-4pm.

Box Tops:
We know you are all collecting boxtops this summer, right? Please cut them out neatly. Thank you. The person who brings in the most boxtops by August 1st wins an ice cream cone from Baskin Robbins.

Pop Tabs Collection:

It's going to be a hot summer and you're bound to get thirsty. Drink lots of fluids and, if your drink comes in a can, save the pop tab for Partnership's Pop Tab Collection House that holds the tops we'll donate to the Ronald McDonald House. Tell your friends and neighbors and relatives to save their Pop Tabs also. Can we fill the house up to the roof by the Frolic?

Many Ronald McDonald Houses work with local recycling centers to receive money for collecting tabs from aluminum cans - including those from soda cans, vegetable and soup cans, and pet food cans. So, drink plenty of fluids, eat your veggies, and have some soup.

Pop Tab Fun Facts:
• The Ronald McDonald House Pop Tab Collection Program was established in 1987 by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Ronald McDonald House community.
• To date, more than 400 million pop tabs have been collected, generating more than $4 million.
• The ring-pull can was invented in 1962.
• The pop tab was invented by Ermal Fraze in Kettering, Ohio.
• Kettering's Fraze Pavilion, a popular amphitheater in Dayton, Ohio, is named after the pop tab inventor.

Pop Tab Measurement Equivalents:
1 inch = 1 pop tab
1 foot = 12 pop tabs
1 meter = 40 pop tabs
1 lb = 1,267 pop tabs
1 km = 40,000 pop tabs
1 mile = 63,360 pop tabs
